Abstract
Delamination is a severe mode of damage in composite and sandwich structures, which can significantly affect their response and eventually lead to catastrophic failure. This study is the first attempt to develop an electromechanically coupled efficient layerwise finite element (FE) model for the analysis of smart piezoelectric multilayered shells of general shapes featuring delaminations and debonding of sensors and actuators. For the laminate mechanics, an efficient coupled zigzag theory developed by the speaker’s group is employed. The active vibration control of laminated plates/shells with piezoelectric sensor and actuator patches is also studied for delaminated structures with or without actuator/sensor debonding.
