The faculty has undergraduate majors in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Engineering Mechanics, Industrial Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation (International Trade Class), and Mechanical Engineering (International Students). The major construction is closely combined with the needs of the Yangtze River Delta manufacturing industry. Among them, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation was awarded the National Comprehensive Reform Pilot Specialty, Characteristic Specialty graded by the Ministry of Education , Provincial Superiority Specialty, and Provincial Key Specialty; the Engineering Mechanics is Provincial Key Specialty; Industrial engineering is a Provincial Advantage Specialty; the Vehicle Engineering is a Rapid Development Specialty that combines the strategic needs of the Yangtze River Delta and the national automobile industry. The faculty pays attention to students’ hands-on practice and innovative ability training. There is Zhejiang Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center—electromechanical Engineering Training Center, mechanical engineering laboratory, engineering mechanics and materials laboratory, industrial engineering laboratory, vehicle engineering experimental center. Teaching laboratory area is more than 3000 square meters, and the total value of equipment is more than 20 million yuan. There are more than 700 ordinary full-time undergraduates and more than 100 international students. Students have performed well in the National College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition, National Zhou Peiyuan Mechanics Competition, National Mechanical Design Innovation Competition, College Student Challenge Cup Competition, Zhejiang Province Mechanics Competition and other discipline competitions, especially consecutive national first prize in the mathematical modeling competition in 2011, 2013, 2014, the second prize in the National Mechanical Innovation Competition for many times, which won the honor for the school. Students have strong hands-on ability, high comprehensive quality, broad foundation, solid professionalism, and the employment rate is among the best in the school. Graduates are well received by employers.

    The faculty insists on taking discipline construction as the first place to promote the all-round development of various undertakings. There is one of the first batch of doctoral programs in Ningbo University—Engineering Mechanics Doctoral Program, 1 post-doctoral mobile station, 1 first-level discipline master program, 4 second-level discipline master programs, and 1 professional master degree program. There are more than 50 doctoral students and 300 master students currently. Engineering Mechanics is the first batch of key disciplines in Zhejiang Province, Coastal Impact and Safety Engineering selected as the Zhejiang Provincial Top Key Discipline in 2008. In 2012, the discipline of mechanical engineering was awarded the first-level key discipline of Zhejiang Province. Four key laboratories deserve to be mentioned, the Key Laboratory of Impact and Safety Engineering of Zhejiang Province, the Key Laboratory of ”Part Rolling Technology Laboratory” ,the Key Laboratory of Ningbo Piezoelectric Device Technology and the Key Laboratory of Ningbo Digital Manufacturing Technology. At the same time, a number of scientific research laboratories have been established according to the teacher's research direction. The college has two provincial science and technology innovation teams and two Ningbo innovation teams.

    The Faculty has strong scientific research capabilities. In the past four years, more than 30 national natural science funds have been undertaken, including one major and key project respectively, and more than 50 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects. The total funding for research projects at all levels in the faculty amounts to more than 40 million yuan. Over 500 academic papers and more than 300 various patents have been published in important domestic and foreign journals and academic conferences. In 2013, one second prize of the National Natural Science Award achieved a breakthrough in this award from Ningbo University and Ningbo City. The faculty has extensive foreign exchanges. It has established a good relationship with many well-known universities and research institutions, such as Purdue University in the United States, Aston University in the United Kingdom, University of Manitoba in Canada, University of Sydney in Australia, St. Petersburg national university in Russia, Norges Teknisk-naturvitenskapelige Universitet, National Taiwan University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, China Academy of Engineering Physics, China Automotive Center Tianjin Automotive Research Institute. Many well-known universities and research institutions have established good cooperative relations, and have carried out joint talent training and academic cooperative research in many fields. The faculty has held important international and domestic academic conferences for many times, and the annual average number of teachers goes abroad to participate in international academic conferences dozens of times, and its academic influence is increasing.
